The Aviation Systems Division has been recognized for its leading research, technology development, and simulation capabilities. Over the past several years, teams of researchers within the Division have won numerous awards, including NASA Software of the Year in 1998 and 2006, Turning Goals into Reality in 2001, and the Air Transport Association's award for Aviation Safety and Efficiency.

The Lunar Lander Handling Qualities Simulation Team received a 2007 Ames Honor Award in recognition of work done in support of NASA's Constellation Program. Team members included representatives from Ames Research Center and SAIC.

COURSE NASA Award, 2006
NASA FutureFlight Central COURSE Project Team received the 2006 NASA Honor Awards for Group Achievement "for significant contributions to the capacity and safety of the National Airspace System by conducting real-time simulations of the Chicago O'Hare Modernization Plan for evaluating tower and surface operations." Team members included representatives from Ames Research Center, FAA, SAIC, Flight Research Associates, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.

Turning Goals Into Reality (TGIR) Award, 2001
The Future ATM Concepts Evaluation Tool (FACET) team, which was led by Ames, received the 2001 TGIR award in the Increase Capacity Objective for development of a tool that will provide the basis for "improving traffic throughput and litigating air traffic delays during periods of bad weather and traffic congestion."

NASA Ames Research Center's FutureFlight Central was voted winner of Air Traffic Management Magazine's 1998 Award for "Safety, Efficiency and Innovation in the category of Training and Simulation." The FutureFlight Central received 51% of the readers' votes in this category. Nancy Dorighi accepted the award on November 4, 1998 at the Air Traffic Control Association 43rd Meeting held in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
